What is
Transcendental Meditation is a simple technique practised 20 minutes twice a day while sitting comfortably.
It is not a religion, philosophy, or lifestyle. Over ten million people of all ages, cultures and religions have learned TM.
What happens when you meditate?
The TM technique allows your mind to easily settle inward, until you experience the most silent and peaceful level of your own awareness. It is completely different as it involves no concentrating or focusing, no trying to "empty the mind".
How is Transcendental Meditation different
from other meditations?
Compared to other meditations TM is different in three ways.
1. Absolutely effortless
- No concentrating
- No control of the mind
- No mindfulness (monitoring of thoughts)
- No trying to "empty the mind"
- Anyone can do it, even children with ADHD
2. Proven effective
TM has been proven effective for stress and anxiety, clarity of mind, and more.
- Unlike other meditation methods, TM is taught one-on-one by instructors
- TM teachers are certified and world experts in the field of TM
- Delivery of training is personalised and individual
Laurens Smits learned the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique in 1992 to deal with the stresses that came with being a successful IT professional. After experiencing the profound benefits of practicing the TM technique in his own life, Laurens decided to become a TM Teacher in 1996, so that he could help others reach their full potential through the regular practice of TM. In addition to teaching TM in Australia, Laurens has taught TM in South Sudan and the Solomon Islands. Laurens has a great desire to share the simple and effortless technique of TM with all those who wish to improve their lives.
Jan Charlwood has been a teacher of Transcendental Meditation since the 1970's, and has been teaching TM on the Mornington Peninsula since 1984. Transcendental Meditation comes from the ancient Vedic tradition. The practice of TM creates coherent brain functioning, giving greater clarity of mind even after the twice daily 20 minute meditations. In places where sufficient people practise TM, this effect of coherence spreads throughout society, bringing benefits to the whole community.
